Eyelid Repair

Eyelid Repair Helps Improve Vision and Appearance

Eyelid repair surgery is often needed for drooping eyelids, eyelids that turn in or out, or any eyelids are that not in their proper position. When eyelids are not in their proper position, they can affect both your vision and the health of your eyes. The recovery period for eyelid repair surgery is usually one week.

How Eyelid Repair Surgery Can Help

Drooping upper eyelids block vision by giving a feeling of a shadow in front of the eyes. Patients who suffer from drooping upper eyelids often have headaches from lifting their brows to see better. Eyelid repair surgery lifts the eyelid and removes the shadow, allowing you to not only see better, but also eliminate strain on your eyes.

When the eyelid turns out (ectropion), it can lead to eye irritation due to exposure of the inside lining of the eyelid. When the eyelid turns in (entropion), it can lead to infection and scarring of the eye due to constant irritation from the lashes. Dr. Prasad can help in either case to protect the health of your eyes and improve your vision with eyelid repair surgery.

Eyelid Repair Ectropian

When the eyelid turns out, this condition is referred to as ectropion. Ectropion is frequently caused by looseness of the supporting strcuture of the lower eyelid related to age, allergies and even eye rubbing. It can also be the result of damage to the skin from sun exposure, burns and trauma. It is occasionally seen as a result of cosmetic surgery to the lower eyelids. Treatment of ectropion is typically performed under local anesthesia with light intravenous sedation (twilight) as an outpatient procedure.

Eyelid Repair Ectropian

Entropion refers to a condition in which the lower eyelid rotates towards the eye so that the eyelashes are touching the eye. In children, particularly Asian children, this condition is referred to as epiblepharon. Entropion is routinely seen related to aging. Repair entropion is typically performed under local anesthesia with light intravenous sedation (twilight) as an outpatient procedure.
